Reintroducing Mackenzie Health

The Vision

“Our vision to increase access to safe, quality care for residents across southwest York Region will soon become a reality,” says Mackenzie Health President and CEO Altaf Stationwala. “We’re excited to be able to offer an enhanced care experience across our two hospitals to better serve our communities.”

Current Status

In early 2021, Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital will join Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital and double access to health care in southwest York Region. This means the rapidly growing community will have access to two hospitals, each with a full-service emergency department, core services, and some specialized programs, as well as to Mackenzie Health’s community-based services.

State of the Art Services

In addition to full-service emergency departments, critical care, surgery, and inpatient medicine units will be available at both hospitals. Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital will have specialized programs in labour and delivery as well as pediatrics, integrated stroke care, and inpatient mental health care. An extensive range of outpatient clinics, chronic kidney disease care, complex continuing care, and rehabilitation will remain at Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital.

The Brand New Facility

While Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital is an impressive building (over 1.2millionsquare feet), facilities at Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital continue to be enhanced. More than 1,500 staff and 100 physicians are being recruited and 3,000 people are being trained between the two hospitals. With a fully integrated Electronic Medical Record and expert staff, physicians, and volunteers across both hospital sites, Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital and Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital will work in tandem to provide quality care.

Next Steps

The construction is not done just yet. They need your support to help them fund the cost of purchasing vital pieces of equipment, technology, and resources. Mackenzie Health Foundation is spearheading the largest fundraising drive led by a community hospital in Canada with a $250 million goal to help build and equip Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital and enhance care at Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital.
