On Sunday, February 2, I hosted a Lunar New Year celebration at the City of Vaughan, and it was a great success!
Those who attended had the opportunity to enjoy some incredible performances, participate in traditional cultural ceremonies and activities, and enjoy some traditional refreshments. It was a fantastic way to ring in the Year of the Rat!
Entertainment included a traditional eye dotting ceremony and lion dance. We also had some fantastic singing performances from local Asian artists, including Eugene Cheung, Kenneth Lee, Sandy Sun and Nina Wang.
Children had the opportunity to participate in many fun activities, including:
Arts and crafts
Chinese Calligraphy Writing
Vaughan Public Libraries 3D printing display
And we also had a special visit from the God of Fortune by the end of the afternoon!
Of course, events such as this are only made possible with the help of our community sponsors, and a special thank you goes out to all of our partners and sponsors.
This year, the event was organized in partnership with the Federation of Chinese Canadians in Vaughan (FCCV). Event sponsors included Liberty Development Corporation, The Remington Group, Miller Thomson LLP, and The Vogue Development Group. Our entertainment and food sponsors included Vaughan Mills and Paradise Banquet and Convention Centre.
It was wonderful to see the entire community come together to celebrate the beginning of the Year of the Rat! The City of Vaughan is known for its strong diversity, welcoming to many cultures and languages, and events such as these celebrate this diversity.
