Originally named the Mid-Autumn Festival, the Moon Festival is one of the most important holidays celebrated by Chinese communities around the world. In China, the full moon has always represented the gatherings of friends and family. Thus, Moon Festival is a time for family reunions. On this night, families will get together at scenic spots or parks for moon appreciation parties, and eating mooncakes.
On Saturday, September 10th, 2016, the City of Vaughan did just that! We invited families and visitors of Vaughan, to come together and welcome the full moon. The celebration included performances, games, lanterns and traditional festive food, and of course moon cakes!
A special thank you goes to all those who volunteered and dedicated their time and effort in putting this event together. Thank you to all the performers who shared their talent with us and bringing their art and culture to this celebration. Finally, thank you to all the guests for coming together either to embrace their cultural roots or to learn about a new one, while celebrating together as one strong community!
